| Corydoras Sterbai | |
| Corydoras sterbai, also known as
Sterba's Cory, originated from South America, Brazil. It is an armoured
catfish, with no scales, only protected by large sheets
of bone under the skin. They have orange pectoral fins, which are
developed from a young age and are quite unusual among Corydoras.
It is also distinguished by the white spots on its dark brown domed
head. The female appear bigger as compared to the males. When looked from the
top, the male fish is recognized by its thicker pectoral fin.
During breeding, the male will clamp the barbels of the female during the fertilization process, using its pectoral fin. The female will carry the eggs to their final destination by using a special pouch located under her ventral fins. The eggs are then attached to a plant leaf or other smooth surface & left to hatch. The adults do not take care of its spawn. The eggs will hatch in 3-5 days' time. It is a peaceful fish, therefore compatible with peaceful fishes such as discus, tetras, mollies, guppies, etc. |
