Tropheus Duboisi |
|
|
Tropheus Duboisi originates from Lake Tanganyika, Africa. It is probably
the most popular & least agressive among the Tropheus species. Its
juveniles are especially popular, due to its light-blue to white spots on its black
body, and when it matures, the spots disappears, leaving it
with a blue face and a blue-black body color with a white or yellow vertical band under the
dorsal fin. It is difficult to differentiate the males from the females, as they have an identical appearance. Males somewhat grow faster (generally) and matures sooner. Adult males will also tend to have a deeper body, whereas females appear more slim and streamline. The males are quite territorial and are aggressive in their attempts to coax females to spawn. Territories can be created in the tank by having separate heaps of live rocks. When breeding, an ideal ratio would be one male to three or four females. Once a female has spawned and is brooding her young, she may be removed so as to prevent disturbance by the dominant male in the tank. Minimal cichlids of other species may also be added into the tank to reduce the aggressiveness of the males towards the females, about 3 to a group size of 12 to 18 Duboisi. Incubation lasts from 24 to 28 days. Its fry are robust when released and they can be raised with the parental group. | |
