Goldfish is a
favourite fish for many as it comes in many varieties with many
different markings, fancy varieties and colors. Some varieties of
Goldfish includes the Red Black Butterfly Goldfish and the Red Cap
Oranda etc. It first originated from China, whereby then was bred in
Japan, Asia, and the other parts of the world. It is a very hardy
fish and usually have an extremely long lifespan if it is well
taken care of.
The gender of
the Goldfish can be differentiated by small white spots called
tubercles around the gill areas of the male Goldfish when they are
ready for spawning. Also, the female Goldfish usually appears to
be noticeably larger when it is swelling with eggs. Males would
also start chasing the females in the tank by then.
The Goldfish
are egg layers and hence you have to make sure you are ready to
deal with the babies before you with the breeding process.
Firstly, start off by placing them into good quality water with
temperature between 75-80ºF
and feed them foods high in proteins. When they are ready, they
would lay eggs on the vegetation at the bottom of the tank and you
will have to remove the adult fishes to prevent them from eating
the eggs which usually hatch within 7 days. Prepare fry foods such
as infusoria and brine shrimp and have it ready for the baby
goldfish to consume.
The Goldfish
can be kept with other community fishes such as platys and
guppies.
