Red Phantom Tetra |
|
|
The Red Phantom Tetra originates from South America. It is a little
more delicate than many tetras. It has a transparent red body but the color
is intensified with our quality fish food. The females have their dorsal
fin in red & black color with white tip, while the males have it more extended and of a
single color. It also has a dark shoulder mark. It is a timid & slow swimming tetra, therefore they tend to swim in a group of 6 or more for security. It also prefers a tank with plants, rocks & driftwood to provide them with hiding places. It is also important to provide them with good water conditions & filtration and regular partial water changes is prefered. This tetra used to be very difficult to breed, but not anymore, it is now easily available in Asia. They like to spawn in a densely planted tank and require slightly soft, acidic water. They can lay up to 400 eggs, which hatch in about a day. The parents must be removed from the breeding tank, as soon as the eggs are fertilized, as they tend to eat the eggs. They are compatible with other small to medium-sized peaceful community fish, such as danio, guppy, platy, molly, swordtail, angel, etc. Fast swimming tank mates are not suitable for red phantoms. | |
