| Blood Red Balloon Molly | |
| (Exclusive at Trop Aquarium) | |
| Balloon Molly is a hybrid of Poecilia
Latipinna. It is differentiated from the other 2 species of molly, P.
velifera & P. sphenops by their different finnage and colour
varieties. Common colour
varieties include combinations of black, yellow and white, but what we
have is REAL RED in colour, which cannot be
found anywhere else, other than at Trop Aquarium, and of course at our valued
customers'. (See Business Partners)
Our blood red balloon molly was also awarded the first prize for Molly category - Class 1 at Aquarama 2003 International fish competition held in Singapore. It has an S-shaped spinal column, a rounded, large belly, a large, lyre-shaped caudal fin and an impressive dorsal fin. It is able to adapt easily to a variety of salt levels, most do well in slightly alkaline, moderately hard water at a temperature between 25-30ºC. It is one of the easy to breed livebearers. Large females may produce just over 100 young, each measuring approximately 1-2cm in length, approximately every 2 months. The males and females are easily distinguished by the difference in the anal fin. The males have pointed anal fin and larger dorsal fin as compared to the females, which has a rounded anal fin. As a good community fish, it is compatible with other peaceful fishes of similar water conditions required, such as guppies, platies, swordtails, danios, loaches, plecos, rasboras, tetras, etc. |
