The Guppy Fish is
a fish that can be taken care of easily that originates from
Central America and has been bred in Asian countries over the
previous years due to its popularity. One of the reasons this fish
is popular is also because it is a very hardy tropical fish that
is also a prolific breeder.
The gender of
the Guppy Fish could be easily differentiated as the males are
usually more colorful with extremely large and colorful caudal
fins. Also, the females are larger in size, with thicker bodies
and small caudal fins as compared to the males.
The Guppy Fish
is a livebearer and therefore gives birth very easily. A tank
consisting of both males and females would breed young readily and
easily. Females can store the sperm for quite a long time, and may
not show signs of pregnancy for a while. The females will then
develop a black spot on the abdomen, the gravid spot, when
pregnant. However, after the fry is born, they have to be
separated from the parents or else they might get eaten up.
The Guppy Fish
is best kept in a planted area with other community fishes.
