The Aulonocara Nyassae originates from Lake Malawi, Africa. The
colouration of Aulonocara
Nyassae can vary widely. In Trop we offer Yellow, Blue,
Red, Orange,
Albino and OB. The Nyassae available at Trop Aquarium are with nice solid
colours. These fishes are relatively peaceful. They will set-up territories and defend themselves, but are not aggressive. The males of Aulonocara Nyassae is easily identified by its size, the males are slightly larger than the females. A large tank with a rocky set-up and a number of crevices and caves is recommended. The Aulonocara Nyassae is an easily bred fish. Males tend to be rather aggressive towards females, therefore it's best to have several females to 1 male in a breeding tank. The females will lay eggs in pits and suck the eggs into her mouth. When the eggs are fertilized, separate the female from the male. Usually only small numbers of fry are produced, between 20 to 40 each time. Aulonocara Nyassae is best kept with other docile cichlids. Be cautioned that they may crossbreed with other cichlid species. Other peacocks and many of the gregarious Haps and Utaka are great tank mates. |
