Usually the
gender of the Dwarf Gouramie is determined by the color of the
fish. Most of the time, the males are more colorful while the
females are less colorful. At the same time, they are also gray in
appearance majority of the times.
The Dwarf
Gouramie is a bubble nest builder and you should first have one
male with one or more females. Filtration should be kept at a
minimum, and there should be no current during breeding. The tank
should be heavily planted so there are hiding places and there
should be floating plants in the tank for the males to lay eggs
under. After a few days, the males should build a nest before
breeding takes place. Remove the females after the eggs are all
laid and only remove the males when the fry hatches. When they
become free swimming, they should be fed infusoria for a few
weeks.
The Dwarf
Gouramie is best kept in a planted area with other community fishes
like platys and tetras etc.
