Leopard Hi-Fin Plecostomus |
|
| The Leopard Hi-fin Plecostomus, is a
suckermouth armoured
catfish, with no scales, only protected by large sheets
of bone under the skin. The body and fins are in brown colour with yellow
spots. Its colour varies with age. They are hardy & robust fishes that
are rarely sick. Hobbyists like to have them in their aquarium, not only for
their interesting behaviour, but also because they feed off the algae and food
left-overs in the tanks, keeping them clean. It is not easy to breed them, and it is almost impossible in the tank. They need to dig holes or burrows in the sand, which they lay their eggs in. The eggs are either guarded, or they are neglected by their parents completely. The fry may hatch as large young fish, or it can be so small that they need to be fed on very fine food. Sometimes, the fry grows pretty fast, or else they grow slowly over a long time. They make a good addition to any community aquarium, therefore they are compatible with most fishes, such as angelfish, catfish, cichlid, tetra, plecos, guppies, rainbowfish, platies, loaches, mollies, danios, etc. | |
