The Yellow Panchax, also known as the golden striped panchax, is widely distributed in Asia. It is a killifish that is easy to take care. It likes to stay near the water surface & they are good jumpers, therefore a covered tank is preferred. Its has an elongated body, with its back slightly arched. The males are larger, slimmer & brightly yellow coloured. The yellow-golden coloured scales on the males gives a sparkling effect to its body, making it an attractive fish to have. It also has a slightly pointed tail, with orange/red tipped fins, while the females have rounded tails. The females are smaller, broader & in pale silver colour. The stripes on its body is more distinct on the female as compared to the males. When breeding, the tank needs to be densely filled with floating plants, bunched fine-leaf plants or java moss, for the parents to deposit their eggs. The eggs must then be removed and placed in a separate tank with shallow water. The eggs must be separated from its parents, or else the eggs will be eaten by them. The eggs will hatch in 11-14 days. It is a peaceful killifish & they are best kept with other peaceful community fish, such as molly, small catfish, gouramis, larger tetras, etc. |
