Rosy Tetra |
|
|
The Rosy tetra is originated in the Amazon Basin. Rosy tetra are mainly rose color. Some are a bit darker, with hints of purple, while some are lighter in color, nearly peach in shade. They become quite excitable at feeding time, but rarely have the nerve to compete with other fast swimming surface feeders. They prefer to snatch and run with anything that drops to mid-water. Males have a flag-like extension to their dorsal fin and an elongated pelvic and anal fin. The males are more colourful than the females. Females have a rounder dorsal fin and are plumper. It is a timid & slow swimming tetra, therefore they tend to swim in a group of 6 or more for security. It also prefers a tank with plants, rocks & driftwood to provide them with hiding places. It is also important to provide them with good water conditions & filtration and regular partial water changes is preferred. For breeding the Rosy tetra, fine leafed plants should be provided, on which the eggs will be laid. A calm current, and low lighting will mirror their natural environment. The parent fish should be removed before the eggs hatch. The fry hatch usually after 24 hours and are free swimming within a few days. They are compatible with other small to medium-sized peaceful community fish, such as danio, guppy, platy, molly, swordtail, angel, etc. Fast swimming tank mates are not advisable. | |
